Who We Are:

Old Band Wallace is a band made up of six middle-aged musicians from Leawood, Kansas. We've added electricity to what originally began as an acoustic jam around campfire back in 2004.

Our diverse musical backgrounds have blended together to offer a broad range of original and cover songs. Currently, our playlist houses over 80 songs and yields sets that include a fun and ever-changing mix of rock, country, ska, reggae, funk and post-punk.

OBW has won several battle of the band competitions in Kansas, we've broken fire codes at venues with our dedicated, fun-loving crowd, and we love nothing more than getting out and sharing our music with others.

What We Play:

Our philosophy is simple: play the kind of music we like to listen to. Besides our driving mix of originals, you'll also hear songs by The Clash, Bob Marley, Elvis Costello, The English Beat, The Kinks, Cake, Johnny Cash, Los Lobos, Peter Tosh, The Talking Heads, The Specials, Rancid, Vampire Weekend, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, REM, The Shins, Velvet Underground, The Jam,

The Stones, Wilco, Cracker and more.

Where You'll Find us:

You'll find us playing in bars, restaurants, charity benefits, city events, music festivals, corporate functions, parties and backyard BBQ's. But wherever it is, the one thing we've learned is that, good or bad, it's a hell of a lot of fun playing music with each other.

Our Name:

In the fall of 2004, our boys' youth soccer team had an overnight camp out at a local campground. About 20 dads and their sons were in attendance. Late at night, the kids wanted to hear a ghost story. So they gathered around the bonfire and heard the legend of Old Man Wallace.

Old Man Wallace  was a  kind, law-abiding citizen who was tragically disfigured in an industrial accident. Rejected by society, he became a hermit an area near our campground. He is often seen rummaging through campsites and foraging for small mammals to eat. As the story went on, one of the dads jumped out of the woods with a mask and scared the kids. This resulted in a full-blown chase through the woods with 20 raging kids chasing a dad through trees, across ditches and down ravines in total darkness. A hamstring was pulled. Minor cuts and bruises were suffered. But "Old Man Wallace" somehow avoided capture and his true identity remains a secret to this day

This story/chase event continued every year for several years, and when the band couldn't agree on a name for this group that formed on these campouts (it all started with guitars, bongos and beer around the campfire), someone threw out the name "Old Band Wallace" and it stuck.

So there you have it, "Old Band Wallace" grew out of the legend of "Old Man Wallace". It's a long explanation, but everyone asks.
